The Rudolph S. Walton School in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood was built in 1900, with a major addition built in 1925. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, and was last occupied in 2003. The Philadelphia Housing Authority acquired it with the intention of re-purposing it into affordable senior housing. The proposed design restores the historic exterior and interior public spaces and uses the classrooms to create generous, light-filled apartments funded by the low-income housing tax credit program.
