Vasey Hall

Graduate Center

Originally home to Villanova University’s black-box theater and performing arts department, Vasey Hall has been thoughtfully transformed into the new Center for Graduate Research and Education. This adaptive reuse project reimagines the 1930s structure as a modern hub for graduate programs, housing administrative offices, conference rooms, and a striking, light-filled, double-height multipurpose space dedicated to graduate students.

To restore its architectural presence along the Quad and reinforce its connection to the surrounding campus, two new arched windows were added to the north facade, and the infilled window openings were re-fitted with energy-efficient glazing. Interior acoustic glass allows daylight to penetrate deep into the office suites while supporting acoustic and privacy needs.

To meet current accessibility standards, the sloped theater floor was excavated and a new mezzanine inserted to improve circulation between building levels.

As part of the sustainable design strategy, the original stone walls were insulated from the interior, and acoustic treatments were integrated throughout to support privacy needs. The Center for Graduate Research and Education exemplifies CICADA’s expertise in educational architecture and sustainable adaptive reuse—bringing new life to a legacy building while meeting the evolving needs of Villanova’s graduate community.
