Swarthmore College

Underhill Music Library is located in Swarthmore College’s Lang Music Building, designed by Romaldo Giurgola in 1973. Changes in the format of the collection due to changing technology, and the need to make the collection and associated listening and practice rooms accessible to student and faculty with disabilities, drove the modifications to the library. The renovation met the Library’s operational goals by reconfiguring spaces, as well as provided greatly improved lighting while reducing energy consumption, all without impacting the architectural character of the Library or the building.
