Environmental Center

CICADA was selected by the Natural Lands Restoration and Environmental Education Program to spearhead a program of additions and renovations to five existing environmental education centers throughout the City of Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park system. The design process was a public one, involving neighbors, members of the Friends of Pennypack Park, and Park staff, and was recorded by the local public television station for development of a documentary. Designed before the publication of sustainable design standards like the USGBC’s LEED® guidelines, the project included extensive environmentally responsible measures, including rainwater capture and reuse, daylighting, natural ventilation, and use of local materials.
