Kurt Raymond, AIA, LEED® AP, NCARB

Vice President and a founder of CICADA, Kurt has been practicing architecture for over 25 years. He is Principal-in-Charge of community development, commercial, and educational projects at CICADA, and bears primary responsibility for firm management and administration. His experience spans a broad spectrum of project types and markets, but he has particular interest in and enthusiasm for urban revitalization, renovations and infill development, and design for sustainability. A creative thinker with a strong commitment to the transformative power of design, Kurt works to bring carefully considered, cost-effective, contemporary design to under-served populations.

Kurt received a BA in Natural Sciences from Colgate University in 1982, followed by a Bachelor of Architecture magna cum laude from Drexel University in 1989. He is a registered architect in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Kurt is listed as a certified Passive House Consultant with The Passivhaus Institut. A member of the American Institute of Architects and recipient of the AIA’s Henry Adams Award, Kurt is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Drexel University, frequent visiting studio critic there and at other area Universities and was a founding editor of The Greenhouse Bulletin; a newsletter concerned with environmentally sensitive design issues. Kurt maintains a long-time involvement with the Community Design Collaborative, which offers pro bono design services to community development non-profit organizations, and was named their Volunteer of the Year in 2003. He was a founder and Board member for the Wissahickon Charter School, a K-8 school that integrates environmental themes throughout the curriculum. His other affiliations include the national AIA’s Housing Committee, the US Green Building Council and the Philadelphia Visitability Committee. In his spare time, he enjoys restoring vintage woodworking machinery from the 1950’s and 1960’s and keeping track of his teenage son.
